"Kamov" clocked the synchroper to 420 km / h

According to TASS, with reference to the developer’s presentation, in the project of a promising high-speed vertical take-off and landing aircraft based on the main rotors of a helicopter, the syncopter with a propelling propeller formed a general view, layout and calculated its flight performance. A helicopter is called a helicopter, in which two screws are installed at a small distance from each other and rotate in opposite directions.

In this case, the trajectories of rotation of their blades intersect, that is, the screws rotate with an overlap. In order to prevent the blades from colliding, the rotation of the screws is mechanically synchronized. With such a scheme, the efficiency is 4% higher in comparison with a single and coaxial schemes, and also there is no disruption of the air flow from the screws, which occurs at high speeds. It is because of this effect that the helicopters of the classical schemes have reached their speed limit.

To increase the speed, a pushing screw was installed in the tail, the blades received special-shaped tips, and their rotation speed was reduced from 220 to 180 m / s. The result of the Kamov design was a high-speed passenger helicopter with a take-off mass of 6.5 tons, a payload of 1000 kg, a cruising speed of 357 km / h, a maximum speed of 420 km / h, a static ceiling of 4700 meters, a dynamic ceiling of 5600 meters and a flight range 1228 km.
