Jeep made the world's most powerful SUV

A dozen years ago, a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 with an atmospheric 6.1-liter V8 rated at 420 horsepower ruled the ball in the market for powerful SUVs: only the Porsche Cayenne Turbo was faster than it. However, a little later he was quickly outstripped in power and speed by several cars at once: Porsche Cayenne Turbo S (570 hp), BMW X5 / X6 M (575 hp), Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S (585 hp) .), Bentley Bentayga (608 hp) and Mercedes-AMG G 65 (630 hp).

Agree, the current Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT with an atmospheric 6.4-liter V8 with a capacity of only 475 horsepower does not look convincing at all. However, the "Jeep" seriously intends to again head the podium, so the most extreme modification of the Grand Cherokee in history has entered the market - the incredible Trackhawk with a capacity of 717 horsepower! From zero to 97 km / h (60 mph), it will accelerate in just 3.5 seconds, and top speed reaches 290 km / h.

The manufacturer calls the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk the most powerful and fastest production SUV, but at the maximum speed the Bentley Bentayga is still a little faster than the Jeep (301 km / h after the programmed activation of the corresponding mode), although it is inferior to it in acceleration to 100 km / h ( 4.0 seconds). The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds and develops 284 km / h of maximum speed, and the BMW X6 M is significantly slower - 4.0 seconds and 250 km / h.

Under the hood, Trackhawk hides a 6.2-liter gasoline V8 with an IHI auger turbocharger in the camber of the cylinder block, which produces 0.8 bar pressure. The power unit is the same as that of the "infernal cats" Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, but for an all-wheel drive SUV, an eight-speed automatic transmission and transfer case have been strengthened, and a limited-slip limited slip differential has appeared in the rear-wheel drive.

The Americans emphasize that the fastest Grand Cherokee can cover a quarter mile (402 meters) in just 11.6 seconds - at the level of the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Nissan GT-R, accelerating to 186.6 km / h in this segment. Unlike impractical supercars, the Jeep is able to tow a trailer weighing up to 3266 kilograms and take five people on board. Outside, the extreme Trackhawk differs only in air intakes instead of fog lights in the front bumper, a black grille and a black diffuser with four exhaust pipes.

Thanks to Brembo's new brakes (400mm discs and six-piston calipers at the front, 350mm discs and four-piston calipers at the rear), the 2.5-ton SUV stops at a speed of 60 mph at a distance of just 34.75 meters. Depending on the driving mode (Auto, Sport, Track, Snow and Tow), the electronics distributes the torque along the axes and adjusts the responsiveness of the engine and gearbox.

There is also a special “soft” mode for controlling a car with a valet, which limits the speed, changes the algorithm of the gearbox and disables the choice of driving modes. There are nine exterior colors for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, including two new ones - Rhino and Redline 2. The most powerful SUV will debut at the New York Motor Show, and will go on sale by the fourth quarter of this year - though only in the USA so far.
