How iPhone image quality has changed: photo gallery
In addition to the fact that the new camera has become faster to shoot and focus, it is characterized by higher detail and a significant improvement in low light conditions. Below are examples of photos taken with the first iPhone, iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S and the new iPhone 6 in various situations.
The first group of photographs is a macro shot of a plate of wild strawberries shot on the street on a cloudy day. The first iPhone and iPhone 3G can’t even focus on strawberries, so the picture is blurry and blurry. Photos taken by 4 and 4S already differ in detail and sharpness, which is even more noticeable in 5, 5S and even more so in iPhone 6.
2. Contrast light
The detail and contrast of the face become noticeably better in the pictures taken by the iPhone 5 and 5S, but in the case of the sixth photo looks more balanced.
In a standard day shot, one of the main differences is the white balance. In the photo taken by 4S, the transition from a warmer tone to a natural one is noticeable. An increase in detail can be seen in the picture of the iPhone 5, however, the differences between 5S and 6 are not dramatic.
In the iPhone 6 picture, the skin tone looks brighter and more natural. Although the photo has a higher level of detail, the image looks a bit uneven and spotty. Thanks to the new A8 processor, the image processing algorithm has been changed, but perhaps this is what caused some problems with skin tone in the pictures. In addition, the new noise reduction algorithm seems to cause excessive pixelation. Also, there is a noticeable plaque of purple, which appeared in the iPhone 5.
Interestingly, the 5S photo has significantly greater contrast and brightness than the iPhone 6, although with worse detail. This may be due to the fine-tuning algorithm of the image in the new model and may be welcomed by those who prefer to adjust settings such as contrast and saturation.
6. Low light
In this case, the iPhone 6 camera demonstrates a significant improvement over its predecessor in 5S. Thanks to the new algorithm, noticeably reduced noise in the pictures.
Despite the fact that the iPhone 6 camera has the same 8-megapixel CMOS sensor and a five-element f / 2.2 lens, new noise reduction and detail algorithms, aperture adjustment and fast focusing have led to significant improvements in photo quality.
