Deadly poisonous spiders appeared in the suburbs
Karakurt (Latrodectus tredecimguttatus) is a large (up to one and a half centimeters) black spider. There may be red spots on the abdomen with a white border, but they may not be, in which case the spider is completely black. He leads a sedentary lifestyle, placing snare traps in the pits and abandoned mink of rodents. Animals are obviously larger than themselves only for self-defense. One of the most poisonous spiders in Eurasia - a person from his bite most likely will not die (although this is possible), but will be tormented for a long time. But a horse or a camel in most cases is doomed.
Its usual range does not go north of Astrakhan, but this year something did not work out with a wind rose and temperature, and karakurt somewhat unexpectedly appeared for biologists in the vicinity of Moscow. It is not difficult to explain the reasons: in spring, the spiders hatching from the eggs are carried by the wind on cobwebs. So many spiders do this, karakurt is no exception. Apparently this time they were drifted far enough by the wind, and the temperature at the landing point was high enough so that the spiders could survive and develop. Under favorable conditions, they become adults in time for mid-June.
According to the press secretary of the Moscow State University Zoological Museum Ilya Gomyranov, it is still too cold for karakurs in the Moscow Region and, with the onset of autumn, the resulting population should die.
“In the Moscow Region, the climate is still quite cold, so that we have a permanent population. However, due to the fact that warm weather has established in recent weeks, some spiders may have come to us from other areas of central Russia, for example, Volgograd and Saratov. Young spiders at karakurt are spread on the web by the wind, settling in the territories. And, perhaps, several individuals thus came to Moscow and the Moscow region. Also often dangerous insects and spiders are imported from more southern regions along with vegetables and fruits, as well as with planting material (seedlings, seedlings of trees, shrubs). But it’s not worth worrying, our cold winters will not allow spiders to become permanent residents of our region, ”RIA Novosti quoted Gomyranova as saying.Do you like the article?
