Chainsaw explosion diagram

1. Chain bus: supports and guides the chain, and also supplies oil to it through two small holes in communication with the oil pump.

2. Saw chain: according to the name, it cuts, but in reality it looks more like shaving. The chain has right and left cutting links, as well as drive and shock absorbers. The side edge of the cutting link makes an incision on the tree, and the upper edge cuts and removes chips.

3. Carburetor: prepares a combustible mixture for the engine by mixing fuel and air. In this model, the fuel supply is automatically regulated hundreds of times per second to maintain an optimal mixture composition.

4. Piston and cylinder: two-stroke engines are installed on most chainsaws. When the piston moves up, it compresses the air-fuel mixture, and at the same time creates a vacuum in the crankcase, sucking a new portion of the mixture into it. After ignition, the piston moves downward, forcing the mixture from the crankcase to rise into the combustion chamber through the suction channel.

5. Accidental Lock: Prevents accidental pressure on the throttle to prevent incidents in the style of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

6. Brake belt : when it is necessary to immediately stop the chain, the chain brake comes to the rescue - a belt surrounding the clutch drum. The brake can be activated by releasing the lock of accidental pressing or by pressing on the hand guard.

7. Starter handle : pulling the cable, you unwind the pulley, which is connected to the engine flywheel through a ratchet mechanism. To prevent the mechanism from jamming, the cable must be released smoothly, and not thrown.

8. Centrifugal clutch : necessary so that the chain can remain stationary while the engine is idling. By design, it resembles a drum brake. Its blocks rotate together with the engine flywheel, the springs press them to the center of the shaft. At sufficient speeds, the centrifugal force, overcoming the action of the springs, presses the pads to the drum, which, in turn, leads the chain sprocket.

9. Silencer : not only reduces the volume of the engine, but also catches hot solids contained in the exhaust.

10. Handguard : this handle rests on the operator’s hand in the event of a sudden rebound of the saw and instantly activates the chain brake. Again, to avoid the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Lumberjacks and firefighters make direct cuts. When the chainsaw is in the hands of the sculptor, there is a need to make curly cuts and tilt the saw, why it can jam. Jack McCantyre, under the pseudonym Chainsaw Jack, creates incredibly detailed totem poles, sculptures of animals and even people. He recommends choosing a saw with high torque and low revs.
