Blood type: what diseases threaten each "type"

Blood clots

Researchers from Denmark have studied how a blood group interacts with a genetic predisposition to deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or the appearance of blood clots in the lower extremities. The study analyzed the results of more than 30 years of monitoring the health status of 66 thousand people. As a result, it was found that people with blood types II, III, and IV have a 40% higher risk of developing DVT than with the most common I. Moreover, an additional study that examined the influence of various factors on the risk of developing the disease demonstrated : IV blood type increases the risk by 20%, and overweight and smoking - by 16% and 6%, respectively.

Heart diseases

The influence of blood type on the risk of developing heart disease was studied by scientists from Harvard. As part of the study, they analyzed the health data of 77 thousand patients and found that the highest risk of developing heart disease is for those with an IV blood group of 23%. However, the researchers recall that factors such as weight, smoking and the type of diet have a much greater influence.

Stomach cancer

Researchers from the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) found that blood group II increased the risk of developing stomach cancer by 20%. At the same time, patients with blood group I showed lower resistance to Helicobacter pylori bacteria, which cause gastritis and gastric ulcer.

Dementia and memory loss

The highest risk of developing age-related cognitive impairment is in people with blood group IV: as the results of one study showed, the presence of blood in this group increases the risk by 82%. Scientists attribute this to the fact that people with the fourth blood group, as a rule, have a higher content of a special type of protein, which affects coagulation - and plays an important role in the development of age-related dementia. But it’s important to remember that factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking influence the risk of developing the disease much more.

Stroke

Researchers call the owners of the first blood group the most protected from the development of a stroke: their risk is only 9%. Experts are not yet ready to answer what exactly is responsible for this pattern, but they remind that after 40 years it is important to control your blood pressure and, if possible, stop smoking and excessive drinking.
